Frequently Asked Questions
Where do you ship?
We only ship to the US and Canada. Some customers have had friends in the United States ship items from my shop to their country, however, once and item is out of my hands and passed to the post office I am no longer responsible for it.
How do I order from you - your page says “sold out/no products found”
Hey! Thank you so much for wanting to order from my small business, I really appreciate you being here 🙂 All of these items are hand crafted by me in a small studio and supervised by my own service dog, Byron.
I do not take orders in a traditional sense, I run my shop on primarily pre-made sales, meaning that items are created ahead of a sale and then uploaded for purchasing at a specific date and time. You are not messaging me to place a specific order.
These sales tend to go quickly, which is why the page often says “sold out” but not to worry, I try to stock up with new items every two weeks or so! Customers are notified of upcoming pre-made sales on my Instagram page 3-5 days ahead of time via Instagram posts, often times the first line is “CCA PRE-MADE SALE xyz date at xyz time” that is when the website will populate with all of the new, pre-made service dog gear. I also have an email list posted to the linktree on my Instagram page, email subscribers get updates on sale day reminding them of the date and time.
Here is a step-by-step on how to purchase an item from Captain’s Canine Attire from a pre-made sale:
- Be on the lookout for the sale announcement post on the Instagram page
- On sale day, a bit before sale time, you will be able to see the items on the website but they will show as sold out, this is just so you can see the sizing and cost of each item, as well as the descriptions. This also allows you to see where the items are on the website/what page. I may also have an Instagram live the day of the sale so that you can stop in and ask questions.
- At sale time, refresh the page, when the items are in stock you are able to add to cart and check out. Be sure to have your Instagram handle copied to your keyboard, you will need to input that on the item page, that way I can easily contact you if I need to clarify anything after your purchase.
- Check out! It is possible to not check out in time and someone else gets the item, so in order to get it you need to be the first to check out with it. Oftentimes there is only one of each vest/cape per sale, but if you would like to see something remade for a future sale you can always let me know via email/Instagram.
- Items ship out generally within 2-7 days, if there is any delay there will be updates via Instagram stories or I will message/email you directly.
Please remember that these items are made by one person - that is why there is not a constant stock of dog gear on the website. I am consistently working on more items, it’s just a matter of waiting for the next sale date.
What about pre-order sales?
Pre-order sales work similarly to pre-made sales. They are listed at a specific date and time, and the first customers to purchase them get the items. The difference is that they purchase the base listing and then are able to go back and customize certain things based on the design (this varies per design - be sure to read the description and ask questions if you have any for a specific vest/cape). Pre-order sales do not happen as often as pre-made sales, maybe once a month, if that.
Can you make me a custom XYZ?
No, I do not make custom items aside from a custom vest auction that may be held 1-2 times per year. There are no exceptions.
Can I copy XYZ item you have made?
No.
How do I measure my dog for a vest?
My general recommendation is to purchase a vest panel that is roughly 60% of your dogs total girth measurement, but many service dog handlers have their own preference. Some handlers prefer larger panels and some prefer smaller panels.
Will you sell me digitized files/can you digitize files for me?
No. I do not sell or make digitized files for other people.
How do sales work?
There are three main types of sales that we have in order of most popular/common:
- Large Premade sales: These have a set date and time (provided in Eastern Standard Time). I will announce on the Instagram account @captains_canine_attire 3-5 days ahead of a large premade sale. Throughout the next few days I'll show off on stories what items are being made and post about them as well. These sales tend to go quick, I recommend being on the website a few minutes prior and refreshing the page when the sale starts (that's when the items will auto-populate). Whoever checks out with the item first will receive it.
- Surprise sales: These take place over the course of a certain period of time - usually a week. I will post to Instagram randomly throughout the week, when the post happens the items will populate on the website and whoever checks out first will receive it. I do not let anyone know when the items are going live so that it is fair.
- Pre-order sales: Sometimes when there is a patch set or sweatshirt/hoodie that is popular I will put up pre-orders. These are capped at a certain number and may show up as a surprise on the website or during a large premade sale. These items are made and sent out within a given timeframe.
Can I pay you extra to give me an item/reserve it for me?
No. I do not accept extra money in exchange for you to receive an item, I keep sales fair.
Can I message you with ideas I have for an item?
Sure!! Just understand that there is not a guarantee that I will make it and that it will not be a custom item for you. If it were to be made, it would be put into a premade or surprise sale and you would have the same chance at getting it as someone else.
Do you make non-service dog items?
I do occasionally make non-service dog items, such as In Training leash wraps and patches, I'm also expanding into decorative collars that can be used for pets. I do not make embroidered vest for pet dogs or ESAs. There are sometimes vests with stitched on loop (the softer fabric that patches stick on to), this allows the customer to purchase patches with their desired wording - please note that I will not make emotional support animal patches.
How long are the straps on vests?
Straps are super long, which allows for the purchaser to cut them to their desired length and heat seal the end with a lighter to keep it from fraying.
My dog is XYZ size or I want XYZ wording, can you please make me an item?
That falls under custom items, but you are more than welcome to message me your ideas and I'll see if I can include it in a premade sale!
How long until items ship?
Within 2-7 business days. If an emergency happens and I am unable to ship within that timeframe I will inform everyone via Instagram stories.
"You're all sold out! When will items be restocked?"
I tend to have sales ever 1-2 weeks. Keep an eye out for stories or posts about upcoming sales!
Can you please remake XYZ vest?
There are some vests that can be remade and others that won't be remade. If a vest has fabric panels on the side then it is a one of a kind piece. If the vest is all canvas then that is one that can be remade in the future.

Can I get a refund?
All sales are final, there are no refunds or exchanges. If you run into an issue with your order please email captainscanineattire@gmail.com as soon as possible so that it can be resolved.
